Richard conducted his first orchestral performance at the age of 16 and went on to receive his LTCL from Trinity College of Music on Bassoon, subsequently continuing his studies in Conducting with Neil Thomson, Professor of Postgraduate Conducting at the Royal College of Music and a former pupil of Norman Del Mar. Richard has also studied Conducting at Oxford University and at Masterclasses given by Diego Masson, John Carewe (tutor of Simon Rattle), George Hurst and Tim Reynish and at the Dartington International Summer School. Richard has conducted many Orchestras, Chamber groups, Symphonic wind bands and Choirs, Richard has conducted the Misbourne Symphony Orchestra since 1996 and was appointed their Principal Conductor in 1998. Richard is also an accomplished Bassoonist, studying with Martin Gatt (LSO) and his solo career has seen him perform concertos in London, Oxford, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, numerous European cities and aboard the QE2 cruise liner. Other performances have included live broadcasts on BBC Radio 3, Classic FM (with Nigel Kennedy), concerts (with Evelyn Glennie) and at both the Juillard School of Music and the Mannes College of Music in New York. Richard's conducting career has also seen him directing not only orchestras, but also using table tennis bats to direct aeroplanes to their parking places at London Heathrow Airport. |
